TRAINING ON PLANT NURSERY ESTABLISHMENT, OPERATION, AND CERTIFICATION ROLLS OUT FOR WESTERN VISAYAS

BANGA, Aklan - In collaboration with the Plant Nursery Operation Team, headed by Ms. Ma. Carmen Primitiva Malaga, Chief, DA-RFO 6 Research Outreach Station in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo, and the Bureau of Plant Industry Regional Office 6—National Seed Quality Control Services, led by Chief, Mr. Sixto Cabila, ATI Region 6, organized a training entitled “Training on Plant Nursery Establishment, Operation, and Certification” from March 5-7, 2025 at ATI Training Hall, ASU Compound.

The participants listen intently during the discussions of important parts of the modules.

Plant nurseries provide an essential environment for seedlings; they provide a controlled area to grow healthy and nurtured while saving other resources such as time. ATI Region 6, as an executor of information, aims to instill this knowledge in farmers, partners, and stakeholders.

Concerning this, the training is composed of 32 participants from all over Western Visayas with a profession and background as plant nursery operators, nursery farm workers, stakeholders involved in nursery management, current officers or active members of organizations assigned to the implementation and maintenance of school or community gardens, nursery operators/workers in ATI learning sites, and supported urban and peri-urban gardens, farmer-leaders with existing plant nurseries, and government-operated or partner nurseries.

During the training lessons regarding Fundamentals of Nursery in Agriculture and Environment, Nursery site selection and design, Production of plant stocks, Seed Propagation Techniques, Vegetative Propagation Techniques, Pest and Disease Management, Nursery Operation, and Nursery Accreditation/Propagation.

The resource speakers share expertise with the participants after an exercise to educate them.


Additionally, some hands-on exercises were included to upgrade the participants' knowledge, behavior, and abilities regarding nursery management and other mentioned lessons and practices.
