ATI REGION 6 COMMENCES THE 30-SOW LEVEL SWINE MULTIPLIER TECHNO DEMO FARM IN STA. BARBARA, ILOILO

Ribbon cutting ceremony during the inauguration of the 30-Sow Level Swine Multiplier Techno Demo Farm in Brgy. Talongadian, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.

STA. BARBARA, Iloilo – ATI Region 6 opens the 30-Sow Level Swine Multiplier Techno Demo Farm together with CPU-ARUGA Integrated Farming System Learning Site (CPU-ARUGA) with the Department of Agriculture-National Livestock Program (DA-NLP), Local Government Units (LGUs) of Iloilo and Sta. Barbara through an Inauguration and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on August 4, 2023, in Barangay Talongadian.

Dr. Ruth S. Miclat-Sonaco, DA-NLP Program Director and ATI-International Training Center on Pig Husbandry Center Director, Dir. Remelyn R. Recoter, ATI National Director, and Mary Ann A. Ramos, ATI Region 6’s Center Director, lead the activity.

Governor Arthur R. Defensor, Jr. of Iloilo Province; Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Darel B. Tabuada, DVM; Mayor Dennis S. Superficial, M.D. of Sta. Barbara, Iloilo; SB Member for Agriculture Ramon Sullano; OIC-Municipal Agriculturist Allan S. Sulleza; and President Larry P. Nacionales and Chief Operating Officer Angel Supitra of CPU-ARUGA Integrated Farming System Learning Site (CPU-ARUGA) also graced the event.

The ceremonial ribbon cutting began a new association/learning site milestone. Following the ceremony, a tour of the newly inaugurated building, which contains a climate-controlled (tunnel-ventilated) animal house, waste management facility, biosecurity facility, and marketing area, the establishment of an Artificial Insemination (AI) center, and procurement of breeders and supplies such as feed raw materials, supplements, drugs, and biologics.

Ms. Ramos acknowledged the guests and expressed her gratitude to all the people who willingly supported and contributed to the project. Then, Dr. Miclat Sonaco, Dir. Recoter, Governor Defensor, Jr., Mayor Superficial, and Iloilo SB Member for Agriculture Ramon Sullano delivered their messages of support for the project.

“The challenge of the project to ATI, the partnered LGUs, and the association/learning site is the sustainability and distribution of benefits to the community and the host municipalities. Together with the members of CPU-ARUGA, protektahan naton ang industriya sang baboy diri sa Iloilo kag ang proyekto nga ginhatag sang [let us protect the swine industry here in Iloilo and the project that is given by] Department of Agriculture through the National Livestock Program and the Agricultural Training Institute” expressed Dir. Recoter.

The CPU-ARUGA is one of the recipients of the “30-Sow Level Swine Multiplier Techno Demo Farm” in Western Visayas. A project funded by the DA-NLP under the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for the Recovery and Expansion (I.N.S.P.I.R.E.) Program and implemented through the ATI Region 6 and DA-RFO 6. The I.N.S.P.I.R.E. Program aims to implement a calibrated repopulation and enhancement of the local swine industry to recover the sector’s capacity to produce sufficient supplies of hogs and pork locally, considering that the country now faces challenges because of the African Swine Fever (ASF).
