BANGA, Aklan - “My child has G6PD deficiency, and soya is a trigger. I am glad to have undergone this skills training because I became aware of the alternative that is coco toyo and the variety of products that can be made from coconut water. I am grateful for the opportunity and for the knowledge and skills that I can share with parents with children like mine, and other coco farmers as well,” expressed participant Sharon Iledan during the Skills Training on Coconut Water Processing last October 11-13, 2023 at the ASU Review Center, ASU Compound.
Fifteen coconut farmer associations and cooperative members from Aklan participated in the training conducted in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry.
During training, participants gained awareness of the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Program, its components, and its impact on the Philippine coconut industry. Topics also include the importance of the importance and opportunities of coconut water processing, the different nutritional content, and the health benefits of coconut water. The participants underwent experiential learning through demonstration and hands-on of the process flow of coco water-based products – Coconut Toyo, Coconut Water, and Coco Vinegar.
