BANGA, Aklan - To train the regional core team of trainers on the implementation of Site-Specific Nutrient Management and to update the knowledge and skills of the Corn Program Coordinators, ATI Region 6 conducted the Training of Trainers on Site-Specific Management (SSNM) Nutrient Expert for Cassava last September 11-15, 2023 at the ATI Training Hall, ASU Compound. The training addressed improved cassava production through Nutrient Management Expert® for Cassava software.

Eleven Agricultural Extension Workers from Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental completed the three-day training.

Topics during the training include the Philippine cassava industry, objectives of Site-Specific Nutrient Management (SSNM), different fertilizers and their uses, cassava crop establishment and management, and principles of the SSNM for cassava production. The group participated in the demonstration of the use of SSNM Nutrient Expert for cassava production.

Participants generated results from the software and submitted re-entry plans as part of their outputs.

Participant Olivia Bertolano from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist Antique, said, “[The] training on SSNM is helpful to us AEWs by equipping us on the proper use of fertilizer to apply on the specific area planted with cassava. It will help farmers to reach optimum field results by following the recommendation, thus minimizing their expenses and earning high profit in return.”

Nutrient Expert® for Cassava (Philippines) is a decision-support tool designed for desktop computers, tablets, and mobile phones that enables local experts and farmers to formulate fertilizer and fertilization alternatives and recommend NSIC-registered local cassava varieties in the Philippines.

ATI Region 6 collaborated with the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office VI for this training.
