COCONUT TECHNICAL BRIEFING IN GUIMARAS HIGHLIGHTS PEST DISEASE MANAGEMENT

Ms. Rocela Lascuña, Agriculturist II of PCA Guimaras, and retired provincial agriculturist Mr. Cesar Segovia examine the specimen a coconut farmer bought during the pest clinic.

JORDAN, Guimaras – Fifty coconut farmers gathered to identify the pests and to manage the disease during the pest clinic held in the municipal covered gymnasium, which was in line with the technical briefing on coconuts.

Farmers bought insect and disease plant specimens for examination by experts from the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and the local agriculture office.

Also, PCA Agriculturist II, Rocela Lascuña, presented the various pests and diseases of coconut and their management. Likewise, retired provincial agriculturist Mr. Cesar Segovia and Mr. Bonifacio Tespoer, farm cooperator of the NJST farm, an ATI-accredited Learning Site for Agriculture, also provided inputs on the management of pests and diseases in coconut and other crops.

PCA Region 6 Manager Dr. Neil Melencion encourages coconut farmers to support the CFIDP programs and services for a sustainable coconut industry.

During the activity, programs and services of the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Program were also presented to the participants.

Dr. Neil Melencion, Regional Manager of PCA in Western Visayas, also graced the activity and encouraged the farmers to continue their efforts and handwork to attain sustainability in coconut farming.
