Cebu City, Philippines – February 20, 2025 – The Agriculture and Fisheries Resources Research and Extension Development Network (AFRREDN) successfully concluded its 1st Quarter Meeting, held in Cebu City today. The event was attended by key leaders and representatives from various national and regional institutions, including the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 7 (DA-RFO 7), the Agricultural Training Institute – 7 (ATI-7), the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCC), the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), and several other government agencies, local universities, and farmer organizations.

The AFRREDN, which is composed of member institutions working in the fields of agriculture and fisheries research and extension, aims to establish a comprehensive framework to modernize the Philippine agriculture and fisheries sectors. With a goal to contribute to food and nutrition security and empower farmers and fisherfolk, the network is working together to prioritize and implement Research for Development and Extension (R4DE) initiatives.

The event focused on several key objectives, including the finalization of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) among the participating agencies and institutions. The MOU aims to strengthen partnerships and cooperation to ensure the effective implementation of agriculture and fisheries programs. Additionally, discussions centered around the plans and activities for the upcoming 3rd National Agriculture and Fisheries Technology Exhibition (NAFTE), which will be hosted by Region 7. The exhibition aims to showcase cutting-edge innovations and technologies in the agri-fishery sector and foster collaboration among various stakeholders.

Fabio Enriquez, PhD, Chief of the Research Division of DA-RFO-7, led the meeting alongside Doris Isabel Racho, DM, representing the Center Director of ATI-7, Dr. Gracia F. Arado. Dr. Enriquez emphasized the importance of a unified approach to address the challenges faced by the agriculture and fisheries sectors and to drive innovation and progress.

The AFRREDN network’s collaborative efforts reflect a shared commitment to improving the livelihoods of farmers and fisherfolk, advancing research, and fostering sustainable agricultural practices for the benefit of the entire nation.
