GAP Jingle-Making Contest Mechanics and Guidelines

GAPjingle

 

I. Introduction

The research project entitled “Developing Vegetable Value Chains to meet evolving market expectations in the Philippines”, shortly known as ACIAR-GAP Project conducts a Jingle-Making Contest as part of its advocacy to firmly establish and promote the significance of the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).

The objectives of the Contest are the following:

● To create awareness and familiarity of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)

● To highlight the importance of safe production of vegetables through adopting GAP The winning entry will be used by the ACIAR-GAP Project in its advocacy, promotions, and other related activities.

 

II. Who May Join

The Contest is open to all amateur/professional songwriters, musicians, music enthusiasts and other interested parties in Eastern Visayas. Contestants below 18 years old must secure and submit a parental consent to be able to join the contest.

 

III. Specific Guidelines to Observe in the Preparation of the Jingle

The jingle must highlight and revolve around the objectives of ACIAR-GAP Project, as follows:

● promote, enhance and instill awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of safe production of vegetables through adopting GAP

● elicit the patronage and support of the general public of the presence of GAP Vegetables in the market

Specific guidelines in the preparation of the jingle are the following:

● The entry must be an original composition and should not infringe on any existing copyright or any intellectual property rights.

● Adaptation is not allowed. Thus, both the music and the lyrics must not have been used, published, performed in public or submitted to a similar contest.

● The lyrics may be in English, Filipino or a combination of both, Waray-waray, and Bisaya/Cebuano. The use of offensive and rude words is strictly prohibited.

● The jingle should run from two (2) to a maximum of three (3) minutes inclusive of intro- and extro-music.

● The composer has the discretion to use any musical instrument as accompaniment. Likewise, the composition may have any musical arrangement, including acappella rendition. Purely instrumental compositions will not be accepted.

All entries to the Jingle-Making Contest shall become the property of the project. The mere submission of an entry constitutes the expressed willingness and consent of the composer that he/she is allowing ACIAR-GAP Project to use the material in all of the project’s advocacy and related activities. It is further understood that all entrants indemnify and hold the ACIAR-GAP Project free and harmless from any and all liabilities of intellectual property rights, and/or any ownership-related issues. 

 

IV. Criteria for Judging

All entries will be screened by a panel of judges. The Board of Judges (BOJ) will decide on the winner in a strict blind judging process based on the following criteria:

Relevance to the objective 30%
Melody (originality, creativity, form and style, structure and rhythm) 25%
Lyrics (originality, consistency and organization, choice of words, cultural substance) 25%
Recall value and popular appeal 20%
Total 100%

The decision of the BOJ shall be final and non-appealable.

 

V. Contest Timeline/Duration

The Contest will run from January 18 to February 1, 2023. Submissions must be submitted by the ACIAR-GAP Project by February 1, 2023. The Announcement of Winner will be on February 8, 2023.

 

VI. Contest Requirements

All entries must be submitted thru: aciargap371ati@gmail.com. The email must contain the following:

● Subject title of the email “ACIAR-GAP Project Jingle-Making Contest”

● duly accomplished and signed registration form and copyright waiver

● letter of parental consent, for minors

● lyric sheets in Docs/PDF Format

● properly labeled output file in mp3 format with information on the track title, name of the composer/performer (File Name: “Song title_Name of the Composer/performer/Group”)

 

VII. Prize at Stake

All contestants will receive a Certificate of Participation. The winners shall be awarded with cash prizes as follow:

1 ST PRIZE: Php 10,000.00

2 nd PRIZE: Php 7, 000.00

3 rd PRIZE: Php 5, 000.00

Consolation Prize to all entries with 80% rating: Php 1, 000.00
