BAYBAY CITY, Leyte – The Agricultural Training Institute–Regional Training Center 8 successfully conducted the first batch of the Training on Layer Chicken Management on July 7–9, 2026, at the ATI-RTC 8, VSU Lower Campus, Baybay City, Leyte.
The three-day training gathered 18 farmer-beneficiaries of the Department of Agriculture's Livestock Economic Enterprise Development (LEED) Program – Layer Chicken Project and seven (7) Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) from participating local government units.
The activity aimed to enhance participants' knowledge and practical competencies in layer chicken production by providing science-based and recommended management practices that improve farm productivity, efficiency, and profitability.
The training covered eight key modules: the status of the chicken industry; introduction to layer chicken production and technologies; flock management and good agricultural practices; farm operations and management practices; record-keeping; economics of layer chicken production; animal health care; and waste management.
As part of the learning activities, participants also conducted benchmarking visits to 3 Mary Farms in Brgy. Ciabu and Learning Site for Agriculture I Uy Integrated Farm in Brgy. Imelda, both in Baybay City, Leyte. The field exposure allowed participants to observe successful layer chicken enterprises and identify good practices that can be adapted and applied in their own farms.
The training on Layer Chicken Management will continue with Batch 2 scheduled on July 21–23, 2026, and Batch 3 on August 4–6, 2026, providing more beneficiaries of the DA-LEED Program and agricultural extension workers the opportunity to enhance their competencies in sustainable and profitable layer chicken production.
Through initiatives such as this, ATI-RTC 8 continues to promote government programs that support sustainable livestock development, strengthen the capabilities of poultry raisers and extension workers, and contribute to the production of safe, quality, and nutritious food in the region.
