Excel Day 2024

MARABUT, Samar – The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center 8 (ATI-RTC 8) conducted it’s yearly Excel Day with the theme “A Time to REFLECT (Rewarding Excellence in Fieldwork, Learning, Extension, and Community Triumphs)” on December 12-13, 2024, at the Layao Site for Integrated Farm in Marabut, Samar. This two-day event served as a platform to honor the contributions of ATI-RTC 8 employees, celebrate achievements, and promote a positive and safe working environment.

Reflecting on Growth and Safe Spaces

In alignment with the 18-Day End VAWC Campaign, staff engaged in a deep reflection on instances of violence or negativity they may have experienced or caused—whether in the office, at home, or elsewhere. Common reflections included bullying and offensive jokes, which were written on paper and symbolically thrown into the fire, signifying a collective commitment to letting go of harmful behaviors.

Following this, participants wrote down action plans on creating a safer and kinder workplace. Key takeaways included fostering kindness, empathizing with others, and thinking before speaking. These action plans were written on orange strips and connected to form a "chain of actions," representing a united effort to make ATI-RTC 8 a safe space for all.

Hindsight Highlight: Looking Back to Move Forward

Recognizing that growth stems from reflection, the Hindsight Highlight activity encouraged each section to analyze their challenges, learnings, and newfound strengths. This exercise enabled staff to identify areas for improvement while developing plans for the upcoming year, reinforcing the value of teamwork and self-assessment.

Bravo Bonanza: A Celebration of Gratitude

To express appreciation for one another, the staff participated in the Bravo Bonanza by exchanging pins, awards, and tokens symbolizing the qualities they admired in their colleagues. This heartwarming activity showcased the positive contributions of each team member, big or small, to the organization.

The Colleague of the Year award was presented to Ms. Oshielah Bandalan of the Admin and Finance Section, who received the most “Best Office Buddy” badges during the Bravo Bonanza.

Goodbyes and New Beginnings

A special tribute was given to Ms. Maria Helen P. Seco, who will retire from government service on December 31, 2024. The evening featured heartfelt video presentations and messages from colleagues expressing gratitude and well wishes for her retirement.

Cultural and Community Engagement: Saob Cave Weaving Tour

The ATI-RTC 8 staff also visited the Saob Cave, a hub for Banig weavers. The staff received a tour demonstrating the intricate process of creating woven products—from harvesting, drying, dyeing, and weaving of the Tikog grass into works of art.

Additionally, ATI-RTC 8 conducted a colored rice awareness campaign for the weavers, showcasing the value of this nutritious product. Colored rice packs were handed over to the weavers and Saob Cave staff as part of ATI’s commitment to community development and awareness.

Excel Day 2024 was indeed a success, fostering reflection, gratitude, and forward-thinking among ATI-RTC 8 staff. By celebrating achievements and addressing areas for growth, the event not only strengthened teamwork but also reaffirmed the organization’s mission to promote excellence and inclusivity in extension services.
