BAYBAY CITY, Leyte - The Agricultural Training Institute in Eastern Visayas conducted the “Training on Farm Business School on Corn Production” from April 20 to 29, 2026, to enhance the entrepreneurial and management skills of participants involved in corn-based enterprises. The activity aimed to equip Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and other participants with knowledge and practical skills that will help farmers become more business-oriented and sustainable in their farming operations.
During the training, participants learned about the current situation of the corn industry, the importance of the Farm Business School (FBS), and the different phases of the Farm Business Cycle. Discussions also covered financial literacy, marketing strategies, enterprise profitability, farm commercialization, and risk management, providing participants with a deeper understanding of managing farm enterprises effectively.
The participants also conducted market analysis activities and developed farm business plans complete with action plans and identified resource requirements. Sessions on farm record keeping, group savings, contract farming, and online marketing platforms further strengthened their knowledge in improving farm productivity and profitability.
One of the highlights of the activity was the participants’ realization of the important role they play in transforming farmers from being solely producers into agripreneurs. They agreed to share the knowledge and skills they gained with farmers in their respective areas to encourage value-adding practices and sustainable farm business operations.
Mr. Jesney L. Balicud, an AEW from Rosario, Northern Samar, expressed his gratitude to ATI for the opportunity to attend the training. He emphasized that AEWs have the responsibility to impart the learnings from the activity to farmers and help empower them to become productive and sustainable agripreneurs.
Participants who successfully completed the training earned 15 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points for Licensed Professional Agriculturists, recognizing their commitment to continuous learning and agricultural development.
