JARO, Leyte – The Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center 8 in collaboration with the Local Government of Jaro, Leyte, conducted another training for the coconut farmers and extension workers to effectively guide them for a more productive, sustainable, and profitable coconut farming practice, contributing significantly to the economic and social development of Leyte.
The training refreshed participants on the opportunities and challenges in coconut production, as well as the CFIDP programs and tools that enhance productivity. They have identified the different coconut varieties and their characteristics based on their uses; identified common coconut pests and diseases and learned the corresponding control and preventive measures; and gained an understanding of the business side of coconut farming and the business strategies they can apply.
Similarly, the resource persons introduced participants to various mitigating practices related to hazards caused by unpredictable weather disturbances.
Mr. Oliver Costimiano, President of Brgy. Aringit Farmers Association, Pastrana, Leyte, shared, “Maupay an pag attend hini nga training ky na hibaro kami nga mas ma upay ngayan nga mag diversified farming ky para my additional income hi farmer other than coconut pati an manga angayan nga tanum nga pwede ma himo nga pan intercrop ha lubi.”
Consequently, Ms. Joy Cañega, member of Jaro Integrated Peace & Development Workers Association, Jaro, Leyte, expressed, “Hini nga training ko nga nahibaroan nga kinahangalan ngayan natun e balik an nutrients nga na wara ha tunapara maka padayun pag hatag hin maupay nga bunga an at mga lubi. Apil an mga iba-iba nga sakit han lubi ngan my ada ngayan niya mga pamaagi hin pag control hini.”
Resource persons for this training include, Dr. Carlos de la Cruz, Ms. Edralin Malasaga, Mr. Mark. Durotan, and Ms. Concepcion B. Miro. The participants also visited the CARRCO, a GAP-certified farm.
Licensed Agriculturists have earned 11 CPD units for this training.
A total of 26 participants completed the Training on Climate Resilient and Regenerative Coconut-Based Farming System (CRR-CBFS) on September 22-26, 2025 in Jaro, Leyte.
