In a collaborative effort to promote environmental conservation and sustainable fisheries, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center IX (ATI-RTC 9) personnel joined hands with the Kapunungan sa Gagmayng Mangingisda sa Concepcion (KGMC) and the Municipal Agriculture Office of Kabasalan planted 1000 Pagatpat (Sonneratia alba) seedlings.

Themed "Mangrove Rehabilitation: Understanding the Ocean Discipline and Caring for Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use," the event highlighted the vital role of mangroves in marine ecosystems and local livelihoods.

The activity was conducted at Barangay Concepcion, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay, on January 24, 2025. Volunteers planted mangrove saplings to rehabilitate and protect the natural habitat. The initiative aimed to enhance biodiversity, mitigate coastal erosion, and provide a sustainable environment for marine life and the local fishing community.

Municipal Agriculturist Miladel Capitania expressed her gratitude "I'm glad that you chose to immerse in a coastal area. I hope this activity will help you see the beauty of our municipality and the importance of Kabasalan's fishing community."

Meanwhile, OIC-Center Director Dr. Gerry R. Pagarigan emphasized the impact of the initiative on both the environment and the community "We are honored to be a part of KGMC's advocacy for preserving our mangroves. We can see how this positively impacts not only the people but also the community's wildlife."

KGMC Board Member Mr. Ely Heis echoed the call for continued collaboration "We are hoping for more collaboration and partnerships with ATI-9, especially in promoting the conservation of our mangrove areas. I hope through this activity you will understand our cause and encourage others to join."

The mangrove rehabilitation project is a testament to the shared commitment of various stakeholders in protecting marine biodiversity and supporting local fishing communities.
