Young farmers in Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay gained valuable new skills in by-product processing and value addition during a three-day training program held from February 18-20, 2025. The initiative, spearheaded by the ATI-RTC IX and led by the Project Officer, Ms. Chared D. Ladera, promises to significantly boost agricultural growth and development in the region.
The training engaged senior high school students pursuing agriculture in the Technical, Vocational, and Livelihood (TVL) strand. Participants actively participated in the sessions, demonstrating enthusiasm, particularly during the hands-on activities.
The highlight of the training was the practical sessions, which covered a range of products including scented candles, spicy vinegar, massage balm, coconut oil, and soap-making—providing participants with tangible skills they can immediately apply.
The expertise and resourcefulness of the resource speakers—Mr. Rodolfo M. Mabalot, Mrs. Merilyn M. Undag, and Ms. Carolina Priscilla Elan P. Ebillo—were instrumental to the training's success. Their contributions proved both beneficial and impactful, enriching the learning experience for all participants.
One of the participants, Mr. Johnny Macalisang, shared his insights during the training: “Na-enhance po ang kaalaman ko, lalo na sa paggawa ng iba't ibang produkto—mula sa value addition processes hanggang sa kung paano ito mapalago gamit ang mga natutunan kong skills.”
The overall success of the training is a testament to the active participation and cooperation of everyone involved. The program's focus on practical skills and the enthusiastic engagement of the participants suggest a positive impact on the future of agriculture in the region. The training provided not just theoretical knowledge but also the confidence and practical skills needed to transform agricultural by-products into valuable, marketable goods.
