What began as a planning session turned into a refreshing and hands-on farm experience, as representatives from key partner agencies rolled up their sleeves and took part in the Agricultural Training Institute–Zamboanga Peninsula’s (ATI IX) “Harvest Friday” activity.

Officials and staff from the Department of Agriculture–Regional Field Office IX, Department of Justice–Parole and Probation Administration IX, and PhilHealth Region IX were warmly welcomed to the ATI IX center, where they were treated to a unique harvesting activity, picking fresh pechay straight from the center-based garden. The event served not only as a bonding activity but also as an opportunity to witness ATI IX’s commitment to sustainable food production through its support to the Zero Hunger initiative.

The center’s lush garden, maintained as part of its food security advocacy, is a growing symbol of the institute’s efforts to promote accessible, healthy food options. Pechay, also known as bok choy or pak choi, was the highlight of the harvest. This leafy green vegetable, rich in nutrients and flavor, is a staple in many Filipino kitchens, especially favored during the rainy season for hearty soups and stews.

ATI IX continues to open its doors to guests and visitors who wish to learn, experience, and be inspired by the possibilities of community-based agriculture. The success of “Harvest Friday” not only celebrated the fruits of the land but also the strength of partnerships working toward a food-secure future.
