A farmer for more than 40 years and is committed and very willing to share not only his various technology in farming but also true to his promise to distributed chickens as the repayment that was also given to him by the government.
Rey F. Quisumbing, a 66-year old farmer and businessman and an ATI-RTC IX Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA) Cooperator of Sayao Farm. He started farming since 1980s, started his small farm, a fishpond and eventually expanded into many commodities as of the moment.
He was from a fertilizer company based in Cebu and Bohol, and became a member of Pagadian Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Quisumbing is the owner of the Sayao Farm, a 132-hectare agricultural land located at Sitio Sayao, Brgy. Diplo, Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur. It is also known with their famous farm-to-table restaurant, the “KAN-ANAN SA BALSA” and their Sweetwater Coconuts.
Later on, he created a school, the SAYAO QUALITY AGRI-AQUA TECHNOLOGICAL TRAINING INSTITUTE, INC., and it was accredited as TESDA Farm School.
Part of the 132 hectares, 12 hectares was certified as ATI-RTC IX LSA. Aside from the fishpond and sweetwater coconuts, his farm also have high value crops, fruit trees, “Baboyang walang amoy” and free range chicken.
In this time of pandemic, Mr. Quisumbing distributed 100 heads of Free Range Chicken to four (4) farmer beneficiaries. This repayment is a part of their commitment to repay to other farmers the chickens they received during the one of ATI 9 training, the “Back-to-Basics: Scientific and Sustainable Livestock and Poultry Production”, where he received 50 heads of chicken after the training. And to highlight, he was able to give twice the quantity that was required from him by the project.
Mr. Quisumbing continues to support farmers and farmer leaders in his area by sharing his technology and knowledge in farming.
