The third and last training of Province-led Agriculture and Fishery Extension System (PAFES) Abra titled: Basic and Practical Approaches in Ruminant Production for Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) of Abra conducted at AT-RTC-CAR on October 16-20 is completed.

The training was conducted to support the ruminant production of Abra that is identified in their Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Extension Program (MAFEP) and to capacitate Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) on proper Cattle Production and Management. Learnings from the training are a great help for the livestock coordinators in their extension service and they can encourage more raisers or farmers to start venturing into cattle production.

Dr. Conrado C. Carolino Jr. a former professor of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Benguet State University was one of the resource speakers during the training and the hands-on demonstration. He shared his experience in New Zealand and from his farm to inspire and engage the participants in actual situations. Dr. Andrew Matib also shared his experience in Papua New Guinea in his topic of nutrition, pasture, and breeding management. Moreover, Dr. Leonora K. Verzola a former DA Agriculturist shared her expertise on the economics of livestock production and the participants tried market surveys at Baguio Public Market, La Trinidad Public Market, and Baguio Slaughterhouse.

Hands-on demonstrations for the restraining techniques, drug administrations, estimation of live weight, age determination, castration, branding, and deworming were done in the dairy farm of the Department of Agriculture at Green Valley, Baguio City. This was demonstrated by Dr. Conrado C. Carolino Jr. with the assistance of the dairy farm staff Dr. Bryan David N. Pumos-an and Ms. Lovelyn M. Calinsuay.

Twenty-three Livestock inspectors and Focal Persons from the different municipalities of Abra attended the said training course.  //Jomar Guerzon and Karen Tagitag
