Reviving the Livestock Industry: The ATI-Cordillera Validates SIRP Applicants

The Department of Agriculture thru the National Livestock Program (DA-NLP) is set to implement the Project "Swine Industry Recovery Project (SIRP)" whose primary objective is to standardize the hog population while improving and reviving livelihoods towards a more stable pork production in the country. For this purpose, the Technical Working Group of the Center conducted a regionwide assessment and validation of the proponents’ proposals submitted to the Center before finally granting the amount. The field validation of the proposed proponents' sites for Kalinga, Mt. Province, Apayao, and Benguet was conducted last September 16-23, 2024. The team continued their validation for the province of Benguet last October 10-11, 2024.

The SIRP is composed of four components, which are; (1) Breeder-based development, (2) Innovative Finisher Operation for Small Hold Farmers, (3) Native Pigs Production and, (4) Biologics and Biosecurity.

The ATI-NLP thru the ATI-RTCs will implement component 2 - Innovative Finisher Operation for Small Hold Farmers "Innovative Pig Pen Design". Component 2 has two packages.

Package 1 has a total fund allocation of ₱1,500,000.00 which is composed of Pig Housing Facilities worth ₱800,000.00 with a capacity of 40 heads; initial stocks of piglets (minimum of 20 kgs) worth ₱240,00.00; 4 months feeds supply worth ₱400,000.00; medicines and biologics (5% of feed costs) worth ₱20,000.00; insurance premium (animals and building) worth ₱10,000.00; and contingency funds worth ₱30,000.00.

Package 2 is worth ₱3,000,000.00 composed of Pig Housing Facilities worth ₱1,600,000.00 with a capacity of 80 heads; initial stocks of piglets (minimum of 20 kgs) worth ₱480,000.00; 4 months feeds supply worth ₱800,000.00; medicines and biologics (5% of feed costs) worth ₱20,000.00; insurance premium (animals and building) worth ₱20,000.00; and contingency funds worth ₱60,000.00.

The project can be availed by Farmer's Cooperatives and Associations (FCAs) and their members, LSAs, LGUs, PAF-ESPs, SUCs and Magsasakang Siyentista. The ATI-RTCs will implement both or any of the two packages listed above. ATI-RTC CAR will implement package 1 of the program.// with reports from Engr. Wendel G. Baaten, Project Engineer
