While the 4-H Club members continue their quest in their competition, the RICs, VLAP, P4MPs and IFYE visited Andy’s Farm in Bineng, La Trinidad, Benguet, as part of their farm visit and to gain knowledge regarding remote-controlled venturi fertigation.
Mr. Andy Colte, the MS and at the same time the MAFC of La Trinidad, Benguet shared his technologies with the participants. His farm has two components - Lettuce Production and Chrysanthemum production. His localized venturi fertigation technique amazed the participants as he demonstrated how it works on his farm. Clicking/pressing the handheld remote control, the fertigation mechanism will be switched on/off. Fertigation is a technique that combines irrigation and fertilizer at the same time. He said that Venturi fertigation is a simple method of mixing fertilizer into a liquid substance and connecting this to an irrigation system using a Venturi injector. This Venturi fertigation has helped him a lot on his farm because it is cost-effective, simple to install and operate, and low in maintenance. Because of this simple method, adjoining farmers copied his technique and helped them reduce labor costs. He is willing to help other farmers install this kind of fertigation on their farms. Andy’s Farm is a certified LSA for chrysanthemum mother plant and seedling production, while his lettuce production is a GAP-certified farm. The farm was also been technically and financially assisted by CorCAARRD and BSU.
The activity is part of the “Big Brother, Big Sister, Stronger Together Strengthening Success Through Mutual Support with the theme "Harvest through 4-H Milestone: Harnessing Agricultural Resilience through Vision, Education, Sustainability, and Technology” held on May 15-17, 2025 at the ATI-RTC-CAR, BSU Compd., La Trinidad, Benguet.
