In order to equip farmers with a diverse range of rice-based integrated farming techniques, a training on integrated rice-based farming systems was conducted at Barangay Dalupa, Pasil, Kalinga on May 14-16, 2024.

This training aimed to empower local rice farmers with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement sustainable and efficient farming practices that can help maximize crop yields and improve overall agricultural productivity in the area.

Rice-based integrated farming system involves simultaneous cultivation of rice paddies, fishponds, vegetable gardens and livestock production in the same agricultural land. The system is a sustainable approach to agriculture that maximizes resource efficiency, increases productivity, diversifies income, and promotes climate resilience.

Moreover, the training included discussion on various farming techniques such as the palay check system and livestock and vegetable management.

Further, the training emphasized the formulation of animal feeds using locally available plant-based sources of protein and additives. These included a variety of ingredients such as rice bran, corn mill, trichantera leaves, Kakawati, malunggay and kamote leaves, all of which were thoroughly discussed and demonstrated during the training sessions.

Participants are encouraged to implement these skills and knowledge for sustainable and efficient farming.

A total of 33 farmer participants attended the said training.
