DILIMAN, QUEZON CITY – Twenty (20) representatives from the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) and the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) convened for the 2nd Quarter Meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Resources, Research and Extension for Development Network (AFRREDN) on May 25–26, 2026, at the ATI-RDEC Training Hall in Diliman, Quezon City.
The two-day meeting served as a platform to review the network’s progress and discuss key initiatives, including the finalization of the Sustainability Framework developed during the previous workshop, the National AFRREDN Plan and Activities, and proposed updates to the Memorandum Circular on the Implementing Guidelines for the Institutionalization of AFRREDN. Discussions also covered provisions on network membership and governance arrangements.
As key partners in capacity building, technology promotion, and research development, ATI and BAR contributed valuable insights to ensure that AFRREDN initiatives remain aligned with national agriculture and fisheries research and extension priorities.
The meeting also underscored AFRREDN’s role in strengthening collaboration among agencies and stakeholders involved in agriculture and fisheries research and extension. Participants emphasized the need to align and refocus network strategies, programs, and activities in response to emerging challenges and opportunities, including climate change, technological innovation, food security, and inclusive rural development.
The agreements reached during the 2nd Quarter Meeting reaffirm the network’s commitment to advancing a modernized, climate-resilient, and food-secure Philippines.
