DILIMAN, Quezon City - The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) joins the celebration of the International Coffee Day 2026, dubbed ATIng Coffee Day, today, at the Rural Development Education Center in Quezon City.
This year’s theme, “Coffee is Part of the Solution: Understanding the Philippine Coffee Industry and Its Role in Sustainable Development,” highlighted the contributions of the coffee industry in addressing the challenges in agriculture and rural development. The celebration forms part of the observance of the National Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Services (NAFES) Month, highlighting the significance of agricultural extension in bringing knowledge, technologies, and opportunities closer to our farmers and agricultural stakeholders.
On behalf of ATI Director Remelyn Recoter, Supervising Agriculturist Joeven Calasagsag shared, “At the Agricultural Training Institute, extension is at the heart of what we do. Through our training and capacity-building programs, we help equip our farmers, agricultural workers, and other stakeholders with the knowledge and skills they need to adapt, innovate, and move forward. In many ways, extension helps connect knowledge to action—and helps turn agricultural innovations into opportunities for our communities.”
“Sa bawat butil ng kape, may kuwento ng pagsisikap. Sa bawat tasa, may kuwento ng isang magsasaka, isang pamilya, at isang komunidad. And through our collective efforts, we can help make sure that these stories continue to create opportunities and a better future for our agricultural communities.” Calasagsag added.
One of the highlights was the seminar on “Coffee is Part of the Solution: Understanding the Philippine Coffee Industry and Its Role in Sustainable Development,” where Lucky Shaina Marie Sy-Narca, owner of Pithaya Cafe, served as the resource person.
Also part of the celebration was an interactive activity called “Brewed with Feelings: A Coffee Hugot” where participants wrote funny, sweet, relatable, or inspiring coffee-related messages that encouraged the ATI employees and participants to express their appreciation and personal connection to coffee.
