TAGUIG CITY – The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) and Urban Farmers PH recently formalized their partnership through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and certification to the BGC Community Farm as ATI’s Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA). This milestone highlights the collaboration between government and community-based organizations in promoting sustainable urban agriculture.
Recognizing the farm’s exemplary contributions to agricultural education and innovation, the BGC Community Farm is the ATI’s first certified LSA in Taguig City. The farm is located at 5th Avenue Corner 34th Street in Bonifacio Global City.
Key representatives from both organizations shared their insights in this undertaking. ATI Director Remelyn R. Recoter underscored the importance of urban farming as a response to food security challenges, especially during crises like the pandemic. She highlighted BGC Community Farm’s role as a model site for promoting agricultural innovation within Metro Manila.
Chief Farmer Louie Gutierrez, representing Urban Farmers PH, expressed gratitude during his message: "This partnership is an honor for us. We hope to inspire more people, both Filipinos and foreigners, to engage in urban farming. By turning idle urban spaces into productive farms, we can ensure food security and foster healthy, sustainable living in the city."
As a certified LSA, the ATI will provide technical assistance, training support and financial assistance amounting to Php 150,000 to enhance the farm’s facilities. The Urban Farmers PH, as the non-government organization maintaining the BGC Community Farm, will maintain the site as a learning venue, demonstrating sustainable urban agriculture practices and sharing best practices with stakeholders.
Witnessing the MOA signing and awarding of LSA certificate were Romermart Aubigne Peñamora, Section Chief, with technical staff Shandee Catimbang and Errica Mae Mangilog from ATI and the team from Urban Farmers PH composed of Farmer Marian, Farmer Randy, and Farmer Francisco.
The activity concluded with a shared commitment from all stakeholders to support initiatives that transform urban spaces into thriving agricultural hubs, empowering communities and promoting food sustainability.
The MOA signing and the awarding of LSA certificate was held last January 2, 2025.
