YFFLTP Trainees for Japan Learn Black Soldier Fly Rearing

The two interns of the YOUNG FILIPINO FARM LEADERS TRAINING PROGRAM IN JAPAN (YFFLTPJ) are learning to raise the black soldier fly, a beneficial insect for organic farming.

This is a new aspect in organic farming for the two while doing their Pre-Departure  Orientation Course (PDOC) in preparation for the 11-month training in Japan.

Nel Christian Dave T. Pio of Siare, Babay, Alubijid, Misamis Oriental, and Patrick P. Tomonglay of Minlanot, Poblacion, Claveria, Misamis Oriental are two of the young farmers in the region who qualified for the training program that will enhance their skills, attitude, and passion for farming through Japanese agriculture.

Currently, the interns are at New Square Foot Urban Garden, an ATI-certified Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA) in Pagatpat, Cagayan De Oro City with Mr. Honorio S. Cervantes.  to learn about the square foot organic vegetable gardening, aquaponics, black soldier fly rearing and duck raising.

Another preparation is for them to learn about dairy farming. They have undergone technical and hands-on training on dairy production at San Roque Dairy Farm, also an ATI-certified LSA owned by Mr. and Mrs. Napoleon Lancin in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental. To complete the course, they learned value-adding through the processing of dairy products like flavored milk, butter, and cheese, at Highland Fresh Dairy Products, here at El Salvador City.

The last leg of their hands-on training will be at Lorenz International Skills Training Academy, Inc. in Sitio Civoleg, Lunotan, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, another certified LSA of ATI of Maggie Zapanta-Tse. to learn hydroponics system for lettuce production and rabbit production.
