CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY โ To empower and produce a batch of soil stewards in Northern Mindanao, the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center X (ATI-RTC X) successfully conducted its first-ever training session on Regenerative Soil Stewardship from March 11 to 13, 2025.
The training gathered graduates of the Farmer Field School (FFS) under the Corn Program from Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, and Lanao del Norte, along with selected newly certified Learning Sites for Agriculture (LSA).
Engr. Gerry R. Burdas, owner of Living Soils Rural Venture and Consultation Services, an accredited LSA, discussed the environmental impacts of soil fertility management and the importance of sustainable soil management practices.
Meanwhile, Karlo Jayvert Cardente, Technical Support Staff (TSS) and Project Officer, tackled the significance of soil microbiology, nutrient deficiency, and toxicity symptoms. Additionally, Joebert D. Apdian, another TSS, provided insights on Integrated Nutrient Management.
Following the discussions, participants engaged in a hands-on soil microscopy demonstration. They brought soil samples from their respective farmlands to assess soil health and composition.
โThe soil requires rich nutrients, making it essential to understand the role of life-giving microbes in enhancing nutrient cycling, improving soil structure, and promoting plant growth, especially for farmers," Cardente said.
The training served as a crucial step for participants in developing their Regenerative Farm Development Plans, laying the groundwork for a more sustainable and resilient agricultural future.
