Coconut farmers in Camiguin trained on coconut-cacao farming system

Mahinog, CAMIGUIN---A total of 20 coconut-cacao farmers participated and successfully completed the 3-day Training on Coconut-Cacao Farming System held at the Qouebe Ecopark and Training Center in Mahinog, Camiguin. The training confers the production technologies and proper cultural management practices on coconut-cacao farming system that the participants be able to perform and apply in their respective farms.

The organized training, which is in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), was attended by Mr. Elves Pacamalan Sabornido, Ms. Sol Sabornido and Ms. Jannah Jezelle Yamit, representatives from PCA who served as resource speakers and delivered topics and updates on the coconut industry, production technologies, and cultural management practices. Also, Mr. Bernandino M. Cagampang Jr., a learning site operator and owner of Junlyn Family Food Processing in Kalilangan, Bukidnon shared his knowledge of cultural management practices in cacao production.

The participants performed a hands-on demonstration on cacao grafting, pruning, and sleeving. They also performed coconut field layouting and proper planting of coconut seedlings. The said training was conducted by the Career Development and Management Section (CDMS) through Training Specialist-II Moisa Niña C.
