Malaybalay City, Bukidnon---The Training of Trainers (TOT) on Corn Production Management, conducted from April 15-25, 2024, at the Northern Mindanao Agricultural Crop and Livestock Research Complex (NMACLRC) in Dalwangan, Malaybalay City Bukidnon achieved remarkable success. The event gathered 32 participants from Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Bukidnon, comprising Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and Farmer Leaders (FL).
The primary goal of the TOT was to equip participants with the necessary skills to serve as proficient trainers, facilitators, and resource persons for implementing Farmers Field School (FFS) on Corn Production and Management in their respective areas. The program employed diverse methodologies, including lectures, field visits, and workshops, covering crucial topics such as Field Layouting, Land Preparation, Planting, AESA, practicum on Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT), and silage making.
Additionally, participants explored the Trichogramma sp. Lab, Trichoderma sp. Lab, and Predatory Insect Lab at the Regional Crop Protection Center-10 (RCPC-10).
A micro-teaching activity conducted after the event marked a significant milestone in developing a skilled pool of trainers. Resource persons from the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center X (ATI-RTC X), Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10), NMACLRC, RCPC-10, the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) of Bukidnon, GreenMinds Incorporated, and the Bureau of Plant Industry - National Seed. Quality Control Services (BPI-NSQCS) were instrumental in ensuring a high-quality training experience for all participants.
The success of the TOT heralds a more efficient and effective approach to corn production and management. The acquired skills and knowledge by the participants show strong promise to benefit the agricultural sector in the region, fostering overall growth and development in the country.
