Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur---Under the Coconut Farmers Industry Development Plan (CFIDP), the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center X (ATI-RTC X) recently conducted the Training of Trainers (TOT) on the Production of Coconut Products and By-products from June 2 to 12, 2024 at Amparitas Integrated Natural Farm in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. The event brought together 26 participants, comprising Agricultural Extension Workers, LSA Owners, and Farmer Leaders (FL) from Northern Mindanao.
The TOT aimed to equip coco enthusiasts with technical skills in processing, thereby enhancing the local economy. The training methodology involved a mix of lecture discussions and hands-on demonstrations.
The Amparitas Integrated Natural Farm, renowned in Caraga Region as the coconut processing hub, was an ideal location for the activity. Accredited by both the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), the farm is known for its domestic production of coconuts and various products and by-products.
During the training, participants actively engaged in making Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO), coco nectar, coco toyo, coco cola, coco patty, coco sugar, and buko juice. They also had the opportunity to manufacture coco coir and weave coco nets. The activity not only focused on enhancing food processing skills but also aimed to empower local communities and bolster economic growth.
By improving the quality and variety of local coconut delicacies, the participants are poised to make a significant impact on both their livelihoods and the community. The TOT is a crucial step in transforming the local food scene, one coconut at a time, and contributing to the overall development of the region.
