EL SALVADOR CITY, Misamis Oriental – The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center X has successfully conducted the Basic Agricultural Extension Course (BAEC) to enhance the professional capabilities of agricultural extension workers in the region.
The week-long training program, held from March 10-15, 2025, at the ATI-RTC X Hall, aimed to improve participants' skills in agriculture extension delivery, problem-solving, and communication.
A total of 25 Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and five farmer leaders from various parts of the region participated, with a majority being new employees and livestock coordinators. The course involved intensive discussions and workshops covering extension communication, strategies, community engagement, and partnership development.
Resource persons included ATI staff members Agriculturist Cristine A. Galupo, Marylie Suralta, Technical Support Staff Cherry Agbon, Angelli Doña, and Teodosia D. Jaraba, the former Chief of the Career Development Management Section, now serving as Supervising Agriculturist.
During the closing program, participant Remelyn B. Cadion emphasized the importance of continuous learning in extension work, noting the training's positive impact on her professional development.
As a key component of the course, attendees also participated in a one-day community immersion at Brgy. Hinigdaan. This activity allowed them to identify local challenges related to farming and livelihoods while learning about the community's culture and practices. Participants conducted a community diagnosis, proposing short-term and long-term interventions aimed at addressing the challenges encountered by residents. The outcomes of the community diagnosis, along with recommended interventions, will be submitted to the Local Government of El Salvador City for further action.
The training was conducted in coordination with the City Agriculture Office of El Salvador City led by City Agriculturist Noli Adrian Gabule.###
