TAGUM CITY, DAVAO DEL NORTE – In a bid to strengthen the implementation of the School-on-the-Air (SOA) programs and equip its facilitators with practical broadcasting skills, ATI-RTC XI conducted a Training on Radio Broadcasting at the Provincial Information, Communication, and Knowledge Management Office (PICKMO) in Davao del Norte on May 28-30, 2025.

Thirty (30) SOA implementers from various agencies in the Davao Region, including staffers from the ATI-RTC XI Information Services Section, participated in the training.

This training provided theoretical grounding and practical experience in radio broadcasting, designed to enhance the skills of SOA implementers in delivering quality audio-based education to rural communities.

Participants immersed in topics and activities in Media Laws and Responsible Broadcasting; Fundamentals of Straight News and News Feature Writing; Basic Techniques in Scriptwriting for Magazine Programs; and Vocal Enhancement.

Participants engaged in writing scripts for both news reports and infomercials and prepared for a five-minute radio production. They also participated in practical simulations for Broadcast Operations and gained hands-on experience at the People Television (PTV) Davao del Norte Radio Booth.

After the live simulations, the performances were reviewed on the spot, and resource persons provided mentoring and helpful tips to help participants improve their delivery.

Resource persons for the three-day training were Dr. Mervin Jay Z. Suaybaguio, Provincial Government Department Head of PICKMO; and Ms. Hannah Grace C. Zafra and Caren Jane R. De Vera, News Reporters/Writers for PTV-48. Their insights and mentorship significantly enriched the learning experience, blending industry practices with the educational goals of the SOA program.

To conclude the training, participants were awarded certificates of completion. Special awards were also given to individuals and broadcast teams who exemplified excellence.

ATI-RTC XI hopes that this training will provide participants with increased confidence and enthusiasm to apply their newly acquired skills to enhance SOA initiatives.

With a deeper grasp of responsible broadcasting and hands-on experience in radio production, they are now better equipped to serve as effective communicators and educators in their respective communities.
