
BRAULIO E. DUJALI, DAVAO DEL NORTE—Thirty-three (33) rice farmers in the municipality completed the Training on Balanced Fertilization and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Hybrid Rice Production for Rice Clusters at M4 Granja Agricultural Learning Center held from March 24-28, 2025.
The training aimed to equip rice farmers with essential knowledge, skills, and strategies in balanced fertilization and pest management in hybrid rice production. These featured expert discussions and hands-on activities to strengthen farmers' understanding of proper fertilization techniques and IPM.
Mr. Ernie L. Malazarte, Rice Focal Person of ATI-RTC XI, emphasized the importance of the right timing in fertilizer application, the correct amount and type of fertilizer to use, and the calculation of fertilizer requirements at specific crop stages. He also led discussions on IPM, highlighting the significance of identifying insect pests and beneficial organisms in rice fields. These helped farmers understand that minimizing pesticide use could reduce production costs and lessen environmental impact.
Ms. Lorna A. Escobar, Agriculturist II of Magro Braulio E. Dujali covered topics on the basics of hybrid rice production and the role of beneficial control agents in rice farming. Both experts expressed confidence that the knowledge imparted during the five-day training.
To reinforce their learning, farmer participants were immersed in hands-on activities on fertilizer computations and insect collection and identification. These practical exercises enhanced their understanding of balanced fertilization and effective pest management strategies.
With their newly acquired skills and insights, these farmers are ready to improve their rice production practices, ensuring sustainable and cost-effective farming methods in their municipality.
