STA. MARIA, Davao Occidental— In a step toward diversifying income sources and strengthening sustainable agriculture, 30 farmers from the Guiang Estate CARP Beneficiary Association (GECARBA) successfully completed a 3-day Training on Native Chicken Production and Management held on October 29-31, 2024 in Barangay San Isidro.
This “Manokan sa Niyugan” initiative under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Program (CFIDP) is designed to equip coconut farmers with the skills needed to integrate native chicken farming into their livelihoods.
The training provided comprehensive insights into native chicken production, covering essential areas such as organic feeding techniques, efficient housing setup, feed and water management, and natural health care practices, with an emphasis on ethnoveterinary methods.
Mr. Ernie L. Malazarte from ATI-RTC XI and Mr. Robert D. Cardinal Sr. from Provincial Agriculture Office of Davao del Norte, both Agriculturist II, served as Resource Persons and provided practical sessions tailored to the farmers' needs.
During the culmination, key officials including Municipal Agriculturist Wendell G. Albasin, PCA-Coconut Development Officer Rodolfo V. Fernandez, and Barangay Captain Roger D. Yu attended the event. Their presence underscored the strong support and unwavering commitment of the community to advancing sustainable agricultural development.
Armed with new skills and knowledge, the graduates are now empowered to inspire others in their community, sharing their valuable insights to promote sustainable practices and further strengthen agriculture in the locality.
