The Agricultural Training Institute-RTC XI is dedicated to modernizing the integration of dairy farming into coconut plantations through the two phases of the Ladderized Training Course on Dairy Cattle Production and Management conducted at Macatabo Farm in Calinan, Davao City.
ATI-RTC XI Development Management Officer I Ms. Lynn A. Leopoldo, led the activity in collaboration with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and the National Dairy Authority (NDA), the training equipped 30 Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) beneficiaries in the Davao region.
The first phase kicked off on April 24-26, 2024 that helped participants understand farm operation, management, and maintenance. Subsequently, the second phase followed on May 15-17, 2024, participants deeply learned about dairy herd management practices, disease prevention, and economic considerations essential for long-term sustainability of the business.
During the first phase, participants engaged in discussions covering various topics such as CFIDP components, the current situation of the Dairy Cattle industry, challenges and opportunities in Dairy Enterprise, characteristics of different dairy cattle breeds, suitable forages for cattle nutrition, best practices in pasture management, formulation of balanced feed rations, essential nutrients for dairy cattle health, and basic dairy farm layout planning.
Meanwhile, the second phase involves more hands-on activities on dairy herd management, control measures on the common diseases of dairy cattle, skills on basic animal health care services, financial profitability, and record keeping.
ATI-RTC XI Center Director Alicia Rose Nebreja, committed to continue supporting and investing to better the coconut and dairy farming in the region since the two phases gave an opportunity for our CFIDP beneficiaries to effectively venture on the integration of dairy cattle production and coconut farming.
