A total of 29 Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) from various local government units, the Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Office XI (DA-RFO XI), and Davao del Sur State College successfully completed a 3-day Training on the Recognition of Priority Animal Diseases held from September 9-11, 2024.

The training aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize, prevent, and control priority animal diseases. This empowers AEWs to safeguard animal welfare and public health in the Davao Region.

The resource persons for the training were Sr. Agriculturist Dr. Armie S. Capuyan and Veterinarian II Dr. Mark Kenneth E. Dino, both from the Regulatory Division of DA-RFO XI. They provided in-depth discussions on disease detection and biosecurity practices.

Participants learned to identify key diseases affecting livestock and poultry, including African Swine Fever (ASF), which has caused significant damage to local farms. They were also trained on biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of infections.

A highlight of the program was a hands-on clinical examination and blood sample collection at Mindanao Baptist Rural Life Center (MBRLC) LSA Farm in Bansalan, Davao del Sur. Participants practiced proper handling of farm animals and performed health checks.

This training not only enhanced the participantsโ€™ technical skills but also strengthened collaboration between livestock technicians, veterinarians, and partner agencies.
