The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center XI (ATI-RTC XI) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office XI(DA-RFO XI)- Regulatory Division and Bureau of Animal Industry-Veterinary Quarantine Services-XI (BAI-VQS) held an Avian Influenza Briefing and Sample Collection on March 17, 2023, at ATI-RTC XI, Panabo City, Davao del Norte.
Participants of the said activity were veterinarians, livestock technicians, and livestock coordinators in Davao Region.
Two resource speakers from DA-RFO XI discussed crucial information on relevant topics. Senior Agriculturist Dr. Armie S. Capuyan provided updates and facts about Avian Influenza (AI) in the Philippines, while Dr. Kenneth E. Dino, Veterinarian II, highlighted the importance of Surveillance and Sample Collection, as well as Biosecurity and Biosafety.
Furthermore, Dr. Louwel Bojos, Veterinarian II of BAI-VQS, discussed the guidelines for transporting live animals, meat, and meat products, emphasizing the mandatory requirement of a Local Shipping Permit for local transport/shipment within and between regions and island provinces in the country.
A hands-on activity for AI Surveillance and Monitoring was also held which enabled the participants to practice their skills in collecting blood samples and swab collections.
The activity aimed at raising awareness about the significance of implementing biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of the Avian Influenza Virus in the region.
