Hagonoy Rice Farmers Explored into Ampaw-Making Training

Thirty rice farmers from the four Irrigators' Associations of the Municipality of Hagonoy, Davao del Sur, participated in the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Specialized Training on Value-Added Processing of Rice and By-Products from May 22-24, 2024.

The three-day program aimed to enhance the skills and potential of rice farmers in value-adding, particularly in producing popped rice—Ampaw.

During the opening session, Ms. Babyglace Lanit, a technical staff member from ATI, provided insights into the current state of the rice industry in the Philippines and acquainted participants with the RCEF programs. Subsequently, Ms. Ellen Mae C. Camallere shared her expertise in producing popped rice Ampaw, conducting a factory visit, and leading hands-on activities for the farmers to understand the production process.

On the final day, Ms. Ruby Jane Bentiroso expressed appreciation for the participants' eagerness to explore new opportunities in rice farming. She emphasized the potential for additional income through rice processing and value-adding. Following her remarks, certificates of completion were awarded to the 30 participants.

Mr. Leowin Briones, the Municipal Agriculturist of Hagonoy, and Geneive O. Dalumpines from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, attended the training to support and encourage the rice farmers in their learning journey.
