The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center XI (ATI RTC XI) held the OALevelUp: Capability Training for Technical Personnel in Organic Agriculture (OA) for Local Government Units from June 10-14, 2024, at ATI RTC XI, Datu Abdul Dadia, Panabo City, Davao del Norte.
The 5-day training was attended by 27 OA focal persons from the offices of Provincial Agriculture, Provincial Veterinary, and Municipal Agriculture across the region. It equipped and capacitated the participants from various Local Government Unitss on the implementation, promotion, and expansion of organic agriculture in the Davao Region.
Ms. Bernadette San Juan, the Director of the National Organic Agriculture Program-National Program Coordinating Office (NOAP-NPCO), and her staff discussed the roles of LGUs in the OA program implementation, core programs of NOAP, and the process of crafting enterprise plan preparations.
The participants visit organic agriculture farms to help develop enterprise proposal plans. The group from Davao City and Davao del Sur visited St. Camillus Community-Based Farm in Mati City. Another group from Davao Oriental and Davao Occidental visited Silvano Farm in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur. A third group from Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro visited Ebon Farm, managed by an intern under the Organic Agriculture Program (OAP), which practices livestock organic farming.
These visits provided practical insights into successful organic farming enterprises, which participants will use to create comprehensive and effective enterprise proposal plans for their local areas.
