The Corn Specialist Training Course (CSTC) has had an eventful week jam-packed with learning from different resource speakers.


On September 12, the participants were enlightened with a discussion on the Status of the Corn Industry by the Corn Focal of the DA-RFO 12, Mr. Zaldy Boloron.

Moreover, September 13 was also a day brimming with insights through the discussions on Participatory Farm Planning and Workshop and Double Row Farming by the Senior Agriculturist of the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM), Mr. Joseph B. Rojales.

These activities were followed up with discussions on Soil Erosion, Soil Conservation Technologies, and how to make an A-Frame discussed by Engineer II from BSWM Engr. Bony Dela Cruz.

On September 14, discussions were all about Climate resiliency delivered by resource persons, Planning Officer IV Ms. Jewel B. Labita and Planning Development Officer III Ms. Quennie May D. Cuma from the Climate Resilient Agriculture Office - Quezon City, who discussed Weather Forecasting and Advisory on rainfall forecasting, and Climate Change Impact, respectively.

The CSTC is a national specialist training that runs from August 15 to December 16, 2022, here in the DA ATI-RTC XII. It is attended by ATI employees and Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) from all over the Philippines. It will involve 4 barangays of the municipality of Tantangan as demo areas for corn studies which aims to enhance the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and practices of the participants by assimilating local/experiential, science-based knowledge in corn production for sustainability, productivity, and profitability.
The activity is facilitated by TCS I Dr. Jessie V. Beldia, Corn Program Focal Person Ms. Alma G. Camales, and other selected staff and facilitators.
