From April 15-19, 2024, 25 Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and Artificial Insemination (AI) Technicians from Region XII and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) convened at Belo Hall, DA-ATI RTC XII in Tantangan, South Cotabato, for an intensive 5-day Training of Trainers on Small Ruminant Artificial Insemination (AI).

The training opened on April 15 with a warm welcome from OIC-Admin Officer IV, Ms. Jey Ann N. Magana. Her remarks set a positive tone for the comprehensive training sessions that followed.

Renowned AI expert, Cayetano C. Pomares, PhD., served as the resource speaker, sharing his extensive knowledge and experience on a wide range of topics. He covered the fundamentals of small ruminant AI, the advantages and disadvantages of AI, the reproduction physiology and anatomy of goats, goat characteristics, signs of heat and selection criteria for breeding does, semen evaluation and storage, estrus synchronization in goats, and nutrition and health management. The training also included hands-on activities on AI for small ruminants, ensuring participants gained practical skills.

The closing program, held on April 19, 2024, featured remarks from OIC Center Director, Ms. Shirley L. Beldia. She emphasized the significance of the participants' efforts and the importance of disseminating the acquired technology and knowledge within their communities. Ms. Beldia also assured that ATI will monitor the participants' re-entry plans to ensure the practical application of the learned technologies and knowledge.

Agriculturist II and Livestock Focal, Mr. Johnny H. Pasaquian, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the participants, noting that this was the first training on AI for small ruminants conducted under DA-ATI RTC XII. Participants from BARMM also shared their appreciation, expressing hope to apply their new skills in their communities.
