From November 19-21, 2024, the Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center XII (ATI-RTC XII) hosted a transformative Training on Improving Swine Production through Mechanization at its facility in San Felipe, Tantangan, South Cotabato. The program aimed to enhance productivity and promote sustainability in the swine industry by introducing advanced mechanization techniques and fostering environmental stewardship.

The opening ceremony featured a message from OIC Assistant Center Director Hannadi G. Pompong, MPA, who emphasized the importance of adopting innovative technologies to improve efficiency in swine production. She also highlighted the ATI-International Training Center on Pig Husbandry (ATI-ITCPH), which developed the training module as a benchmark for specialized learning.

Dr. Renel Alucilja, Associate Professor II at the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), led discussions on the state of the Philippine swine industry and the role of livestock mechanization. Prof. Tito Jun T. Tidula, from USM’s College of Engineering and Information Technology, further explored the current advancements in pig mechanization in the country. Participants also visited the 30 Sow-level Swine Multiplier Farm (SMF) project of LGU-Polomolok, culminating in a closing program at the INSPIRE Project site. ATI-RTC XII OIC-Center Director Jessie V. Beldia, Ph.D., delivered the closing remarks, encouraging participants to apply their learnings to boost productivity and sustainability in their respective areas.

The training was facilitated by Mr. Errol Chris Laspinas, ATI Livestock Alternative Focal, and Engr. Victor Canlas, ensuring a comprehensive and impactful learning experience for all attendees.
