On September 11, 2024, participants of the ongoing Season-Long Training of Trainers (TOT) on Integrated Crop Management for Corn gathered in Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat, to participate in the Regional Varietal Trial on Corn for the Wet Season (Low Elevation). The event provided a unique opportunity to explore various technologies and evaluate corn varieties developed by leading seed companies across the region.
The trial allowed participants, comprising farmers and trainers, to witness firsthand the growth differences, resilience, and yield potential of multiple corn varieties specifically designed for low-elevation, wet-season conditions. This experiential approach enriched the understanding of each variety’s adaptability, helping trainers provide farmers with recommendations suited to their local environments.
Beyond observing varietal performance, the event served as a platform to introduce cutting-edge techniques in corn production, supporting local farmers in optimizing their practices and addressing common crop challenges. The insights gained from the trial aim to empower participants with the knowledge needed to foster sustainable and productive corn farming throughout Sultan Kudarat and beyond, promoting resilience in the region’s agricultural sector.
