T’BOLI, South Cotabato – Thirty dedicated upland rice farmer-leaders from Sitio Ulo Cabu, Brgy. Maan participated in the Training on Sustaining Upland Rice Farming: Integrated Approaches to Production, Pest Management, Climate Resilience, and Value Chain from March 26-28, 2025.
Despite challenges such as power interruptions from a lightning strike, flooding that rendered roads nearly impassable, and a sudden venue change, the training pushed through successfully—testament to the resilience and commitment of the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMAg)-Tboli, ATI-XII Rice Team, Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Brgy. Maan, and the farmer-leaders.
In partnership with OMAg-Tboli, led by Engr. Bary L. Lugan, the training covered critical aspects of upland rice farming, including: Upland rice production technology; Integrated pest management (IPM) Climate resilience strategies; Integrated rice-based farming system; Nutrient management; Post-harvest techniques & value chain development; Record-keeping & financial literacy; Environmental sustainability.
With the guidance of expert resource speakers Ms. Marigene L. Catequista, Ms. Aileen B. Malasador, Mr. Leo Zernan Castillo, Mr. Rochie John F. Sejuela, and Ms. Girlie B. Dela Cruz, participants gained invaluable knowledge to enhance their farming practices.
Through this training, ATI-RTC XII reaffirms its commitment to empowering upland rice farmers, ensuring that they are equipped with sustainable, climate-smart, and profitable farming strategies for a more resilient agricultural future.
