The three-day training on Food Processing and Livelihood Enhancement for Rural-Based Organizations (RBOs) in support of Gender and Development, held from June 19-21, 2024, in Glan, Sarangani, was a resounding success. Thirty participants from five barangays attended the event, aimed at providing practical skills and empowering local communities to develop sustainable livelihoods.
Day 1 began with a warm welcome from Ma'am Veronica Gravidez of the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist-Glan. Media Production Specialist II, Ma'am Ma. Theresa Laxamana, introduced the participants to the topic of Gender and Development, followed by an essential session on Financial Management led by Ma'am Aiko Buliag-Tula, which equipped participants with valuable skills to manage finances effectively for their future business endeavors.
On Day 2, Professional Food Technologist Ms. Abigail May Garcia emphasized the importance of Food Safety and good packaging, ensuring participants understood how these aspects are crucial in both product quality and marketability. Participants then engaged in a practical session making Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO), applying the knowledge they gained.
The final day saw participants create five coconut-based recipes: Coconut Balls, Bukayo, Coconut Polvoron, Coconut Vinegar, and Coconut Jam, showcasing the skills learned during the training. The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and closing remarks by Ma'am Eva Mae Pamat, capping off a productive and empowering experience for all involved.
