On November 27, 2024, the Lamitan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (LARBECO) formally launched as the first Coconut-Based Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA) in Basilan. The event marked a significant milestone for coconut farmers in Basilan, providing them with a dedicated space for learning, innovation, and opportunities for value-added production.


The ceremony was graced by key officials, including PCA Regional Manager Datumanong Pendi, Lamitan City Agriculture Representative Ms. Nellie Grace Aquino, LARBECO Chairman Ibrahim Utto, and LARBECO Manager Edilberto Martinez, all of whom delivered messages of support emphasizing the potential of the site to uplift coconut farmers and advance agricultural practices. Representing the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center XII is Ms. Hannadi S. Guiamad-Pompong, OIC-Assistant Center Director, who led the event alongside her team: Ms. Shirley L. Beldia, Senior Agriculturist and LSA Focal Person, Ms. Simona P. Dela Cruz, Training Specialist III, Engr. Mokles P. Buisan, Training Specialist II, Engr. Jun Rey L. Samillano, Agriculturist II, Ms. Mercedita G. Aglibot, Development Management Officer I and Ms. Jey Ann N. Magana, Administrative Officer IV.


In her message, Ms. Guiamad-Pompong celebrated the launch as a turning point for Basilan’s coconut industry. She encouraged LARBECO to transcend its role as a training site by becoming a hub for innovation and value-adding initiatives. Highlighting Basilan’s rich resources, she urged stakeholders to collaborate with CFIDP implementing agencies and other government bodies to maximize opportunities and develop future coconut-based products for broader markets. She also reiterated ATI's commitment to ongoing farmer training under CFIDP, ensuring continued support for sustainable agricultural growth in the region.
