SURALLAH, South Cotabato – Construction of the Second Swine Artificial Insemination sa Barangay (SwAIB) Project in South Cotabato is set to commence at the Municipal Demo Farm in Brgy. Dajay. This initiative aims to enhance swine genetics and improve artificial insemination (AI) services for local hog farmers.

On March 26, 2025, the Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center XII (ATI-RTC XII) conducted its monitoring and assessment of the project’s developments. Present during the visit were Ms. Hannadi S. Guiamad-Pompong, OIC-Assistant Center Director, Mr. Errol Chris A. Laspiñas, Agriculturist I, and Ms. Kissciel Arao-Arao, Technical Staff from ATI-RTC XII. They were joined by key officials from LGU Surallah, including Municipal Agriculturist Ms. Josephine Portugalete, Senior Agriculturist Mr. Gil Egalin, Engineer II Engr. Elmer Limpiado, and Contractor Project Engineer Engr. Novo John Syzygy Lubaton.

The SwAIB Project is designed to produce high-quality, genetically superior processed semen, improving breeding efficiency and herd productivity. The facility will feature AI laboratory equipment, essential tools, bio-secured boar housing, and premium boars to ensure disease-free and superior genetic material.

This initiative will replace traditional "boar for hire" practices, which often lead to increased disease transmission risks, reduced fertility rates, and compromised genetic quality. Through artificial insemination, hog raisers in Surallah will benefit from a more efficient, biosecure, and scientifically advanced breeding system, ensuring the sustainability and growth of the local swine industry.
