From April 15-19, 2024, 15 Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and 10 Farmer Leaders gathered at ATI-RTC XII in San Felipe, Tantangan, South Cotabato, for a five-day Training of Trainers (TOT) on Dairy Farm Operation, Management, and Milk Processing. The event commenced with a warm welcome from OIC-Admin Officer IV, Ms. Jey Ann N. Magana, who set an encouraging tone for the comprehensive training ahead.
The first day featured an overview of the CFIDP by Eljean B. Villasista, technical staff. Jesus Melchor P. Bertolpo, Enterprise Development Officer from the National Dairy Authority (NDA), introduced participants to basic dairy farm practices and the understanding of dairy breeds, laying a strong foundation for the training.
Dairy Product Specialist Hilario C. Cabalong, Jr., also from the NDA, provided valuable insights into forage and pasture establishment, equipping trainers with essential skills for dairy farming. His presentation on the utilization and maintenance of established forage and pasture further enhanced participants' practical knowledge.
Dr. Constantino B. Besana from the NDA shared his expertise on basic dairy health management and dairy herd management. Meanwhile, Project Development Officer II, Jayvee D. Emejas, emphasized the importance of safety and quality in dairy milk products, highlighting value-adding processes and production techniques.
The training also included an expository tour to the Unified Farm in Polomolok, South Cotabato, owned by the Unified Engineering Workers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (UEWMPC). This tour allowed participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge, focusing on milk processing equipment, procedures, and product costing. The closing program on April 19, led by Training Specialist III Simona P. Dela Cruz, recognized the participants' dedication and the knowledge they gained, ensuring they are well-prepared to share and disseminate their learnings. The training was expertly facilitated by Eljean B. Villasista and Aurish Kizia S. Calawen, CFIDP Technical Staff.
