Forty participants (40) from two associations in Brgy. New Cebu, Pres. Roxas, Cotabato successfully participated in the PigKabuhayan: Enhancing Capabilities of Affected Hog Growers through Biosecurity seminar organized by ATI-RTC XII on February 27, 2025, at the Barangay Gymnasium of Brgy. New Cebu.
The seminar, aimed at supporting the Gender and Development (GAD) Program, provided participants with valuable insights into the equal roles of men and women in the agricultural sector. Ms. Simona P. Dela Cruz, Training Specialist III, discussed the importance of gender equality and the active roles both men and women play in farming practices.
In addition, Mr. John Jiglo M. Teaño, DVM, of the Provincial Veterinary Office of Cotabato, tackled the pressing issue of African Swine Fever (ASF) and discussed the preventive measures and effective farm biosecurity practices to protect local hog farms from the outbreak. To further assist the affected hog raisers, ATI-RTC XII distributed piglets, feed, and multi-purpose disinfectants to the participating associations, Barangay Health Workers, and Barangay Tanod. These stocks were from one of our INSPIRE Project beneficiaries, the COLIPA Cooperative, under the Swine Multiplier Farm (SMF) Projects (30 Sow-weaner Production) at Pres. Roxas, Cotabato.
The event concluded with participants sharing their impressions, followed by a response from Mr. Errol Chris A. Laspiñas, Livestock Focal Person and Agriculturist I of ATI-RTC XII. He emphasized the importance of implementing preventive biosecurity measures to prevent ASF from spreading further. All attendees received Certificates of Participation, and the event ended with a closing message from Ms. Simona P. Dela Cruz, thanking everyone for their active involvement. This seminar provided essential knowledge and resources for the local hog raisers, ensuring a more resilient and sustainable farming community in President Roxas.
