TANTANGAN, South Cotabato – The Third Batch of Training on Coconut-Cacao Farming System was successfully conducted from March 3-5, 2025, at ATI-RTC XII, Brgy. San Felipe, Tantangan, South Cotabato.

 

The training commenced with an opening message from Training Specialist III Simona P. Dela Cruz, setting the stage for three days of intensive learning. OIC - Center Director Jessie V. Beldia, Ph.D., inspired the participants with his message, emphasizing the significance of integrating coconut and cacao as a sustainable farming system. CFIDP Technical Staff Alyssa Marie Ilustrisimo formally welcomed the participants from North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat, providing them with an overview of the Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund (CFITF) Program.

 

Participants delved into essential topics facilitated by esteemed resource persons:

  • Harvesting and Post-Harvest of Coconut and Cacao – Mr. Bonifacio Pales, owner of Pales Farm, a certified Learning Site for Agriculture, shared his expertise on proper post-harvest handling techniques.
  • Insect Pests and Diseases of Cacao – Mr. Arnaldo G. Pacio, Science Research Specialist II from DA-AMRES, provided in-depth knowledge on cacao pest and disease management.
  • Crop Establishment and Farm Maintenance – Ms. Eljean B. Villasista, a Registered Agriculturist, guided the participants on best practices for farm productivity and sustainability.

The training concluded with a farm tour and hands-on demonstration at Pales Farm in Tampakan, South Cotabato, where participants applied their newfound knowledge in a real farming environment.

 

Through this initiative, ATI-RTC XII continues to empower farmers with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance their agricultural ventures, ensuring sustainability and economic growth in Region XII.
