From March 10-14, 2025, a vital training program on Cacao-Coffee Nursery Establishment and Management took place at ATI-RTC XII in Brgy. San Felipe, Tantangan, South Cotabato.  The training, designed to empower farmers with the skills to establish sustainable and profitable nurseries, attracted eager participants from across the region.
OIC-Center Director Jessie V. Beldia, Ph.D., kicked off the program with an inspirational message, emphasizing the importance of these valuable skills for the future of the region's agriculture.  Mr. Normuhaymin B. Arsad, CFIDP Technical Staff, extended a warm welcome to participants from Sen. Ninoy Aquino, Sultan Kudarat province, and provided an overview of the CFIDP program.
Renowned Coffee Specialist Mr. Kadafi A. Tayantis delved into key topics such as the Agronomic Characteristics of Coffee and Cacao, along with effective strategies for managing pests and diseases.  Mrs. Marjie D. Lastimoso, Agriculturist II of BPI-NSQCS, provided crucial insights into Nursery Establishment Certification and Accreditation, ensuring participants understood the necessary steps for a successful operation.  Mrs. Joie Krisze D. Recinto, Agriculturist II of DA XII- Tupi Research Outreach Station, rounded out the training with a comprehensive session on Cacao-Coffee Nursery Establishment and Management.
Participants gained hands-on experience during a practical farm tour and demonstration at the Tupi Research and Outreach Station, solidifying their newly acquired knowledge. The program concluded with a ceremony recognizing the participants' dedication and achievements. Administrative Officer IV of ATI-RTC XII Jey Ann N. Magana, in her closing remarks, expressed her confidence in the farmers' ability to utilize their newfound knowledge to create sustainable and profitable nurseries.
This training program marks a significant step toward strengthening the cacao and coffee industries in Region XII.  By equipping farmers with the necessary skills and knowledge, the program aims to bolster the local economy, generate new opportunities, and foster sustainable agricultural practices for generations to come.
