Twenty-two Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and Local Farmer Technicians (LFTs) successfully completed a five-day Training on Inbred Rice Seed Production for Deputized and Designated Seed Inspectors. The training took place from April 15-19, 2024, at Big Hall, ATI-RTC XII, San Felipe, Tantangan, South Cotabato.

The opening program, held on April 15, was graced by OIC-Admin Officer IV Ms. Jey Ann N. Magana, who warmly welcomed the participants. The first session featured Mr. Joseph P. Simpao, RCEF Technical Staff, who provided an in-depth understanding of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) and its implications for rice farmers.

Over the next two days, RCEF Technical Staff Mr. Jayson V. Abang covered crucial topics such as rice morphology and growth stages, seed and variety selection, land preparation, water management, pest management, and harvest and post-harvest management. Additionally, Agriculturist II Mr. Jun Rey L. Samillano provided insights into nutrient management for rice crops.

On the fourth day, expertise on seed certification, seed sampling, and seed testing methods was shared by BPI-NSQCS Agriculturist II Ms. Marjie D. Lastimoso and Project Assistant II Ms. Shirley A. Balidiong. They discussed detailed procedures and laboratory standards essential for rice seed quality control.

The program concluded with remarks from Ms. Simona P. Dela Cruz, Training Specialist III and CDMS Chief, who emphasized that the training aimed not only to enhance technical skills but also to foster competence and ethical standards among deputized seed inspectors from Region XII and BARMM. 

This training, facilitated by the RCEF Program and led by Training Specialist II and RCEF Focal Person Engr. Mokles P. Buisan, aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve rice farmers’ competitiveness and boost the productivity of the rice industry in Region XII and BARMM.
