Durian Growers in Antipas, Cotabato recently participated in a 3-day training program on Durian Production, Management, and Postharvest Handling. Held on April 17-19, 2024, at the Municipal Agriculture Office, the program aimed to equip 30 growers with the latest knowledge and techniques to ensure sustainable durian production.

The training covered a wide range of topics, including:

•Durian Industry Situationer

•Recommended Cultivars of Durian and their Characteristics

•Soil and Climatic Requirements of Durian

•Insect Pests and Diseases of Durian and their Management Practices

•Harvesting, Postharvest Handling •Operations and Storage of Durian

•Compliance with Philippine National Standards for Durian Production

Resource persons Mr. Isidro Abrazado and Ms. Sheryl Lou L. Tamparong, both from the DA-RFO 12, led the two-day lecture sessions.

To put theory into practice, participants then embarked on an experiential learning visit to CEMIARC in Tupi, South Cotabato. This happened on the third day of the training. There, they observed firsthand different methods of durian production and learned about GAP certification for durian and other high value crops.

The training was spearheaded by the HVCDP Focal Person, Ms. Mercedita G. Aglibot and Alternate Focal Person, Ms. Anareystel P. Lape.
